"According to the 'Grading of Driving Automation for Vehicles' standard issued and implemented in 2022, L2 is combined driving assistance, and L3 is conditional automation. As L2 continues to mature, we are currently at a critical node moving from L2 to L3. Last year, we predicted that 2024 would be the year of large-scale commercialization for L2. In 2025, we predict that the industry will begin to have the ability to commercially apply L3." On the evening of April 22nd, Yu Zhi Jin, CEO of Huawei Intelligent Automotive Solutions, officially released Huawei Qian Kun ADS 4, Harmony Space 5 for the cabin, and XMC for vehicle control solutions in Shanghai. He stated: "Currently, Huawei has conducted 600 million kilometers of high-speed L3 simulation and verification on the cloud world engine, and we are ready for the mass production and commercial use of high-speed L3."

Mr. Jin Yuzhi candidly admitted that achieving the leap from L2 to L3 is not easy, so priority is given to starting from relatively simple high-speed L3. Although high-speed L3 is theoretically simpler, there are still some challenges to overcome. Even if only 1% of difficult scenarios exist, for high safety and reliability, Huawei's Qian Kun R&D technical team will invest 99% of their efforts to solve them.
Specifically, Huawei Qian Kun ADS 4 has made upgrades in four aspects.
First is the architecture upgrade. Huawei Qian Kun ADS 4 adopts the World Engine + World Behavior Model Architecture (WEWA Architecture) oriented towards the future autonomous driving era, reducing end-to-end latency by 50%, improving traffic efficiency by 20%, and decreasing emergency braking rate by 30%.

Currently, the lack of driving data under difficult scenarios has become an industry bottleneck.
Mr. Jin Yuzhi stated that Huawei Qian Kun's World Engine (WE) on the cloud can utilize AI to generate difficult scenario diffusion models. The high-quality and high-density difficulty scenario density provided is 1000 times that of the real world, enabling AI training with AI. On the vehicle side, the newly released high-precision solid-state LiDAR, cabin LiDAR vision sensors, and distributed millimeter-wave radar modules significantly enhance the vehicle's perception capabilities. The World Behavior Model (WA) is the industry's first native intelligence driving base model, possessing full-modal perception capabilities including "vision, hearing, and touch," and can call different capabilities according to different scenarios.
Better driving experiences also require chassis engine adaptation. According to him, HUAWEI XMC digital chassis engine pioneered the industry with its全域integrated architecture, achieving centralized control of body, motor, suspension, steering, and brakes, making it the most integrated chassis engine in the industry today. Functions such as vehicle-road state preheating network, spatiotemporal intelligent suspension network, and comprehensive collaborative control model enable the vehicle to predict vehicle status and road conditions, achieving optimal whole vehicle control through integrated decision-making of all components.

Stay Alert in L3
The second major upgrade of Huawei Qian Kun ADS 4 is the safety upgrade. Mr. Jin Yuzhi stated that the newly upgraded Comprehensive Collision Prevention System CAS 4.0 will continuously enhance active safety capabilities from five aspects: full speed range, all directions, all targets, all weather conditions, and all scenarios.
In terms of full speed range, forward AEB is the industry's first to take effect at 150 km/h; eAES launched for the first time in the industry, with simultaneous braking and yielding, effective range from 50-135 km/h; lateral collision prevention LOCP, effective range 30-130 km/h; the industry's first support for rearward AEB, effective range 1-60 km/h. In terms of all directions, the first mass-produced high-precision solid-state LiDAR, with a minimum accuracy of 3 cm, can precisely perceive negative scenarios such as sunken steps and trenches, and suspended objects like pipes and fire boxes, as well as irregular obstacles like poles and stones.

The third major upgrade is the experience upgrade. The P2P 2.0 experience for highway to highway parking again upgrades, supporting ETC passage at highway toll stations, and VPD 2.0 functions for switching between parking spaces and valet parking. It is expected that by June 2025, 500,000 parking lots across the country will support P2P. The VPD valet parking function will achieve new features such as multi-level underground parking lot navigation and charging on behalf of customers. It is expected that by June 2025, 100,000 parking lots across the country will support VPD valet parking.

The fourth major upgrade is industrial upgrading. Through deep integration of algorithms and sensors, cross-domain collaboration of algorithms and vehicle engineering, and over 600 million kilometers of cloud-based simulation validation, Huawei officially released a high-speed L3 commercial solution. At the scene, Huawei also demonstrated a video imagining L3. This includes scenarios such as not looking at the road during the journey, making video calls, playing games on the car system, turning back to sing karaoke, etc.
However, Mr. Jin Yuzhi reminded that we are currently at a critical node transitioning from L2 to L3. L3 is conditional automation, where drivers can divert their attention to non-driving activities but must remain alert and promptly take over when requested. He also mentioned that the adoption of urban intelligent assisted driving is rapidly increasing, expecting to reach 3.94 million units this year, 8.25 million units next year, and 14.96 million units by 2027.
