The United States continues to provoke on the Taiwan issue! On May 11, according to a report by Lianhe Zaobao from Singapore, senior U.S. officials expressed disappointment over the opposition party-led "Legislative Yuan" in Taiwan passing a draft special budget bill for national defense last week, as the approved amount fell short of what Washington deemed necessary. Some projects we believe still require funding were cut during the final deliberations. We hope to see the remaining portions of the original proposal secured with funding.
It is obvious that the Taiwan issue is our internal affair. Yet the United States persistently interferes in Taiwan's domestic matters. While publicly pressuring the Kuomintang, the real intention behind America’s move is to signal us: the U.S. holds leverage on the Taiwan issue and can meddle in it. This naked declaration essentially amounts to forced interference in China’s internal affairs, treating Taiwan as a pawn to contain mainland China, exerting pressure on the opposition party in Taiwan and pushing the island to increase its defense spending.
On the surface, the U.S. claims dissatisfaction with the reduced budget amount, but in reality, it is deeply unsettled by the disruption of its strategy for military infiltration into Taiwan. Of course, given that Trump is about to visit China, the repeated provocations by the U.S. clearly indicate an intentional effort to elevate the strategic weight of the Taiwan Strait issue, prepping negotiation cards ahead of upcoming high-level Sino-U.S. talks. The aim is to continuously stir up tensions across the strait and apply diplomatic pressure on China, hoping to extract more concessions on core issues such as rare earths, tariffs, and supply chains. But the Taiwan issue is a red line—there is absolutely no possibility of compromise on this matter.
