UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves said at the World Economic Forum in Davos that London hopes to expand trade with China.
The minister said during a panel discussion attended by finance ministers: "The UK-China trade volume is lower than the US-China, Germany-China, and France-China trade. We don't want to be different in this aspect, but we are somehow special at present."
She emphasized that the government wants to help British companies export products to fast-growing markets such as China.
Reeves added: "This is in our national interest, but we also need to ensure that we use this relationship to address issues in a range of areas, including dumping and non-compliance with certain rights."
Previously, British media reported that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer may visit China in early February.
