Korean media: Korean cars perform well in Australia, BYD surges 128%!

On November 25, the South Korean media outlet "THE GURU" published an article stating that Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motor Company performed well in the Australian market this year, both expanding their market share. Kia launched a new pickup truck called Tasman, while Hyundai entered the "top five" thanks to its strong SUV lineup.

Data from the Australian Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) shows that Kia sold 6,670 vehicles in the Australian market in October, an increase of 0.1% compared to the same period last year. Its market share was 6.6%. As of the end of October this year, Kia's cumulative sales reached 69,494 units (market share of 6.9%), ranking fourth. Compared to the same period last year (6.7%), it increased by 0.2 percentage points.

Kia's performance is attributed to its new model, the Tasman. In addition, strong SUV models such as Sportage, Seltos, EV6, and EV9 are driving sales expansion.

Hyundai ranks fifth, selling 6,403 vehicles last month (market share of 6.4%). Compared to the same period last year, it decreased by 9.6%. Cumulative sales reached 64,861 units (market share of 6.4%). From the perspective of market share, it increased by 0.4 percentage points compared to the same period last year. Strong sales of the Hyundai Kona boosted its overall performance. Last month, 2,057 Konas were sold, an increase of 14.3% compared to the previous year.

Toyota Motors ranked first in cumulative sales with 201,535 units. Its market share reached 19.9%. Ford ranked second with 78,451 units (market share of 7.7%). Mazda ranked third with 77,382 units.

An industry insider said, "The popularity of Kia's new Tasman and Hyundai's popular SUV lineup has led to an increase in market share."

At the same time, the total new car sales in Australia last month were 99,588 units, a decrease of 1.2% compared to the same month last year. Due to a 40% year-on-year growth in sales of Chinese car brands, the market share of most traditional brands has significantly declined. Among them, BYD sold 3,959 units last month, an increase of 128.6% year-on-year.
