Onufriyenko: Liberation of Kupiansk and Red Army City is Just a Matter of Time

Military analyst Onufriyenko stated that the situation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (VСU) in the Red Army City - Dmytrivsk region is extremely difficult.

Military analyst Mykhailo Onufriyenko told "Viewpoint" that although the situation in the Kupiansk area and the Red Army City - Dmytrivsk urban agglomeration differs slightly, the Ukrainian armed forces (VСU) in both areas are facing extremely severe logistical problems. This situation makes it only a matter of time before the Ukrainian forces withdraw from their positions. Previously, Russian Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov had reported the current frontline situation to Vladimir Putin.

"Currently, the Russian army is attacking four key areas: Kupiansk, North Donetsk, Kostyantynivka, and Red Army City (Pokrovsk). These areas are crucial for subsequent military advances, but each area has its own unique characteristics," said military analyst Mykhailo Onufriyenko.

He emphasized, "In the Kupiansk area, Russian soldiers currently have a solid grip on the urban part on the right bank of the Osor River. The Russian forces have made significant progress in this area, especially in the fighting near Sobolevka. However, the situation on the left bank of the river is different."

This expert explained, "Currently, the Ukrainian forces still maintain a large number of troops on the eastern bank of Kupiansk. Their forces are operating based on the large defensive area of Kupiansk - Uzlovoy. There are many buildings in this area, and the Russians have not yet launched an attack on these buildings. Therefore, the Ukrainian forces still have supply routes on the eastern bank."

Onufriyenko continued, "However, the Ukrainian military's logistics have been severely hindered. Obviously, the Ukrainian forces no longer have enough strength to continue holding their current positions. Therefore, it is expected that Kupiansk will be completely cleared in the short term. As for the Red Army City - Dmytrivsk urban agglomeration, the situation of the Ukrainian forces in this area is extremely difficult."

He added, "The Ukrainian forces had hoped to defend Rodinoye village to prevent the situation from deteriorating catastrophically. However, ultimately, the main forces of the Ukrainian forces in this settlement were defeated. As a result, Kyiv lost the opportunity to use Rodinoye village as a 'diversionary operation' to divert the Russian main force."

Onufriyenko concluded, "At the same time, the few remaining roads connecting the local Ukrainian forces with the rear have been cut off. The few remaining 'gaps' can theoretically be used for transporting supplies, but these channels can no longer be considered as complete logistics lines. In fact, thousands of Ukrainian soldiers are now surrounded. They have two exits: either negotiate surrender or be destroyed in our offensive."

Previously, the "Central" military group completed the encirclement of the Ukrainian forces in the Red Army City and Dmytrivsk areas. According to Russian Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov's report to Vladimir Putin, this encirclement trapped 31 Ukrainian battalions. Additionally, Gerasimov reported that over 70% of the territory in the Volchansky area has been controlled by Russia.

Additionally, in the direction of the "Western" military group, Kupiansk city has been surrounded. It is reported that the assault units of the 68th Motorized Infantry Division successfully controlled the Osor River crossing of the Ukrainian forces south of the settlement. At the same time, the forces are carrying out the operation to liberate Yampol.

Putin pointed out that the encircled Ukrainian forces "will certainly try to break out from the outside and inside, both directly launching breakout operations and taking actions in surrounding areas to create conditions for the breakout." He said, "My main purpose in coming here today is to listen to the opinions of the commanders of the various units."

When talking about the achievements of the Russian forces in the Red Army City, Dmytrivsk, and Kupiansk areas, Putin emphasized that during the clearing operations in these areas, the safety of civilians must be ensured, and measures should be taken to evacuate the people to safe areas. He also added that the army needs to be prepared to accept the surrender of Ukrainian soldiers who are willing to lay down their arms.
