Mongolia and China will conduct the third joint survey of their national borders

Montsame, Ulaanbaatar, August 14 - Mongolia and the People's Republic of China have decided to conduct the third joint survey of their national borders.

This survey will start from Ulaanbaatar, and then the joint working group will carry out field work along the border. According to the Agreement on the Border System between Mongolia and the People's Republic of China signed by the Government of Mongolia and the Government of the People's Republic of China, the first border survey was conducted between 1982 and 1984, and the second one between 2002 and 2005, during which time the establishment of a geodetic network, topographic mapping using aerial photography, and the determination of coordinates and elevations of border markers were completed.

To prepare for the joint border survey, Mongolia and China held regular meetings in Ulaanbaatar on the 5th and 6th of this month, established the "Joint Committee for the Preparation of the Third Joint Survey of the Borders between Mongolia and the People's Republic of China," and agreed to hold the first meeting before the first quarter of 2026.

In addition, the second border survey between Mongolia and the Russian Federation has already been launched in 2023, and the work of establishing a geodetic network, drawing topographic maps, and determining the coordinates and elevations of border markers is currently underway.

It is reported that the border between Mongolia and China was determined between 1962 and 1964, and was registered with the United Nations in 1975.
