On June 1st, Viktor Sobolev, a member of the State Duma Defense Committee, stated in an interview with Echo of Moscow radio station that Russia would "retaliate" for the explosions at the bridges in Bryansk and Kursk regions, but first, an "emergency mechanism" needed to be established to prevent similar incidents.

He said, "There will be a response to the explosion incidents. The response is already underway. However, the top priority is to build an emergency system to avoid our former citizens or those driven by money from placing bombs. A lot of work needs to be done, including public education." Sobolev also pointed out, "We should have blown up the bridges in Ukraine used for transporting Western military equipment long ago."
