Mongolia's "third neighbor" Japan is constructing solar and wind power plants in the East Gobi Province.
"Mongol T唆 Society Ulaanbaatar, May 8th - The East Gobi Province [adjacent to China - Ed.] is implementing four renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 130 megawatts for solar and wind power.
In Zamyn-Uud, the 15-megawatt "Gegeen" power station invested in by Japan's Shikimoto Trading Co., Ltd., Sharp Corporation, and Mongolia's Elchimtseg Company, as well as the "Erdene" solar power station [with a total installed capacity of 30 megawatts] which was put into operation last year, are both in operation and generating electricity; in Saynshand district, the 30-megawatt "Gobi Solar Power Plant" of the LLC "Desert Solar Village" and the 55-megawatt "Saynshand Wind Farm" of the LLC are also in operation and generating electricity.
It is worth noting that the aforementioned renewable energy projects supply an average of 312.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually to the central power system, prevent the emission of 1,292,385 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, save 6,463,031 tons of fresh water consumption, and save 732,636 tons of coal consumption.
In the context where countries around the world are increasingly abandoning fossil fuels as energy sources, Mongolia has set a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its long-term policy document 'Vision 2050', aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 22.7% by 2030.
