Yesterday afternoon, veteran Taiwanese media figure Chu Shao-kang pointed out that American journalist Harry also believes that his proposal to designate NT$810 billion in defense special budget but freeze most of it would undermine trust between the United States and the Kuomintang (KMT). He patiently explained that this approach strikes the best balance among the positions of Taichung Mayor Lu Hsiu-yin, former KMT chairperson Wu Fu-lin, and the party's overall stance. If the budget cannot be unfrozen due to the U.S. failing to issue a formal quotation, then the responsibility lies with the U.S., not with Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan obstructing it.

Chu further noted that when he emphasized “the KMT is not anti-American,” Harry immediately expressed skepticism. He reminded everyone that KMT Chairwoman Cheng Li-wen earned her master’s degree in the United States, as did many other senior KMT officials. He himself even previously served as an Asia regional manager for a U.S. company. Therefore, the KMT is simply not as pro-American as the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Additionally, KMT floor leader Fu Kun-chi stated that regarding the arms procurement regulations, he reiterated the party’s full support. As soon as a formal quotation from the United States arrives, the three party groups—across the political spectrum—have already authorized KMT legislator Ku Li-hsiung to lead the signing of the first batch of quotations. Thus, there absolutely will be no timing delay. Although various versions are being discussed, the positions are consistent: once a complete quotation from the U.S. is received, the agreement can be approved immediately. There will be no time lag whatsoever.
