The FBI has begun using lie detector tests in the investigation of internal leaks.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said on Monday that it had started using lie detector tests to assist in the investigation to identify the source of leaks within law enforcement agencies. The Public Affairs Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation told Reuters in a statement: "We can confirm that the FBI has begun conducting lie detector tests to determine the source of information leaks within the agency."

Since returning to the White House in January, the Trump administration has been cracking down hard on people leaking information to journalists. Last week, the U.S. Department of Justice simplified the procedures for prosecutors investigating leaks to the press to subpoena records and testimony from reporters.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that former senior advisors dismissed during the Pentagon's information leak investigation may face prosecution, and stated that evidence will be submitted to the Department of Justice after the investigation concludes. Hegseth retained the possibility of using lie detector tests in his memo requesting an investigation.
