As President Trump's second term approaches its 100-day mark, the Media Research Center (MRC) announced an analysis on April 28 revealing that the evening news of America's three major television networks reported on President Trump (Donald Trump) with 92.2% negative content and only 7.8% positive coverage.

MRC statistics show that from January 20, when Trump took office, to April 9, the evening news of American Broadcasting Company (ABC), National Broadcasting Company (NBC), and Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) collected a total of 899 reports involving President Trump or the Trump administration, with 92.2% being negative reports.

Researcher Rich Noyes said, "Eight years ago, using the same method of analysis, we found that the three major TV networks had a negative reporting rate as high as 89% for Trump during his early days in the first term."

He said, "Just after completing 100 days in his second term, the bias of the three major TV networks' evening news has become even more severe than it was eight years ago."

The study also showed a stark contrast between the media coverage of former President Biden's early days in office and Trump's. According to MRC data, 59% of Biden's media coverage during his first 100 days in office was positive.

Noyes pointed out, "Despite the extremely negative media coverage of Trump, major TV networks still cannot resist making him the protagonist of their news stories."

"From January 20, 2017, to April 9, major evening news programs spent a total of 1,900 minutes reporting on Trump; this year during the same period, Trump's news coverage reached 1,716 minutes. By comparison, Biden's coverage during the same period in 2021 was only 726 minutes, less than half of any of Trump's terms."

MRC explained that they determined the positive or negative nature of the reports by counting explicit evaluative comments about Trump made by reporters, anchors, or non-party individuals such as experts or voters, while comments from political figures were not included in the calculation.

MRC noted that during Trump's first term's early days, media coverage focused mostly on his personal controversies; but in the first 100 days of his second term, the focus of evening news shifted mainly to policy issues.

In the evening news of the three major networks, the tariff issue received the most attention, with a total of 361 minutes of coverage; followed by news about the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), with 301 minutes; and undocumented immigration issues aired for 233 minutes.

Noyes said, "Of the news about Trump's tariff policies on major TV networks, 93% are negative reports, and the negative ratio for DOGE reports is as high as 97%."

He continued, "Even on immigration issues - an area where Trump performed best in polls, the media's negative reporting rate reached 93%. In nearly four hours of evening news, only 3.5 minutes mentioned Trump's significant reduction in the number of illegal border crossings."

In addition, Trump's key aides also failed to receive positive coverage.

The survey found that Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received 89% negative evaluations in reports; DOGE leader Elon Musk received 96% negative coverage; and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's news had a negative ratio as high as 100%.

In response to these findings, ABC, NBC, and CBS did not respond to requests for comment.

Trump has many grievances with the three major TV networks. He is currently suing CBS for $2 billion, accusing the network's "60 Minutes" program of having allegedly beautified Kamala Harris in an interview last year and interfering with the election.

Last year, Trump settled a defamation case with ABC for $15 million. Before entering politics, he hosted the popular show "The Apprentice" on NBC.

A White House spokesperson told Fox News, "Mainstream media continues to portray President Trump's historic achievements negatively, even though 77 million Americans support his policies. The public understands that the president is doing the right thing for the country, which is why traditional media ratings continue to decline and people are beginning to seek new ways to access news."
