South Korean media: BYD's first-quarter net profit soars by 100.4%!
On May 16, South Korean media Chosun Ilbo published an article stating that data shows that in the first quarter of this year, the net profit of Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD was twice that of last year. This is the fastest growth rate in two years. Quarterly sales exceeded 170.3 billion yuan, an increase of 36% year-on-year.
BYD's recently released first-quarter performance report showed that the company's net profit for the first quarter this year was 9.155 billion yuan, an increase of 100.4% compared to 4.5 billion yuan in the first quarter last year. Quarterly sales reached 170.36 billion yuan, up 36.4% from 125 billion yuan last year.
Earlier this year, BYD announced that it would equip all vehicles priced above 100,000 yuan with an autonomous driving system called "Celestial Eye," which has drawn significant attention. Compared to Tesla's application of autonomous driving features on models priced above $32,000, BYD has greatly expanded the range of applicable vehicles.
In addition, BYD recently launched a "Super e-Platform" with a power output of up to 1,000 kilowatts, capable of providing 400 kilometers of range after just 5 minutes of charging, causing quite a stir. Most fast chargers have an output power of around 350 kilowatts, and Tesla's upcoming superchargers later this year will also only reach an output power of 500 kilowatts.
Previously, BYD ranked first in global electric vehicle market sales in January and February. SNE Research analyzed in its report that "BYD is continuing its proactive growth strategy, setting this year's annual sales target at 6 million units."
