【Ukraine Develops Laser Weapon】
Ukraine has developed a laser weapon designed to counter Russian drones, now entering its final testing phase.
According to Ukrainian media (RBC), the laser weapon was developed by a company named Selebra Technologies. Based on the latest test results, this laser weapon can effectively down Russian "Geranium" drones within a 5-kilometer range. Mounted on a mobile vehicle platform, the system boasts high mobility, enabling rapid relocation and significantly enhancing Ukraine's air defense coverage against Russian drone attacks.
Notably, engineers directly integrated an artificial intelligence system during development, allowing the system to autonomously detect enemy objects in the sky without requiring operator intervention. Ukrainian media stated that developers synchronized the laser system with radar stations, enabling accurate tracking of drone flight paths. This integration drastically reduces the system’s response time.
Like laser weapons developed by other countries, Ukraine’s laser weapon can directly emit a beam to ignite incoming drones. In addition, this laser system can also be used for long-range mine clearance operations across Ukrainian territory.
In December 2024, Ukraine first discussed developing laser weapons internally. Following this, designers swiftly moved forward, ultimately turning the concept into a tangible reality. In April 2025, Ukraine’s military publicly demonstrated the successfully developed laser weapon. During the demonstration, it successfully targeted a drone, with the laser beam blinding the drone’s camera and ultimately causing it to lose control.
