After Trump initiated the tariff war, China and the US are about to hold their first official meeting, which will be held in Switzerland.
The Chinese Embassy in the United States spokesperson, Pengyu Liu, just wrote (at 7:26 AM Beijing Time on May 7): "As the lead person for China's economic and trade affairs, Vice Premier of the State Council, Liqiang He, will hold talks with US lead negotiator Treasury Secretary Scott Beuscher during his visit to Switzerland from May 9 to 12."
The Ministry of Commerce spokesperson released information this morning, stating: "China has carefully evaluated the US side's message. Taking into full account global expectations, China's interests, as well as the appeals of the US industry and consumers, China has decided to agree to engage in contact with the US side. As the lead person for China's economic and trade affairs, Vice Premier Liqiang He will hold talks with US lead negotiator Treasury Secretary Beuscher during his visit to Switzerland." [Smart] Comment: If the US side comes with the sincerity to solve problems, it will be a good sign for the entire world and for both China and the US. Several foreign media outlets look forward to China and the US reaching consensus and agreements. On May 6 local time, the US Treasury Department website also released the news that China and the US are about to meet in Switzerland. However, earlier today, Beuscher continued to use an overbearing and "face-saving" language when he was interviewed by Fox News. Beuscher said: "The world is moving toward the US, but China remains the missing piece of the puzzle. I was originally going to Switzerland to negotiate with the Swiss. The Chinese team is currently visiting Europe. They will also go to Switzerland. So we'll meet on Saturday and Sunday."
