US P-8A anti-submarine aircraft flies over the Taiwan Strait

Reuters reported that a US Navy P-8A Poseidon anti-submarine aircraft flew over the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday. The US Seventh Fleet stated that this action demonstrates the US commitment to a "free and open Indo-Pacific."

This flight took place before US President Trump's planned visit to China this month, and meanwhile, US-China relations have remained tense due to issues including Taiwan, trade disputes, and technology restrictions.

The Seventh Fleet said: "By operating in the Taiwan Strait according to international law, the US upholds the right of navigation and freedom for all nations."

Reuters cited Chinese state media Global Times reporting that the Chinese Navy and Air Force tracked, monitored, and conducted alert operations throughout the process, stating that they had "effectively handled" the situation.
