South Korean media: BYD's first month of sales in Korea achieves a "great start", ranking first among imported electric vehicles!

On May 10, the South Korean media "The Herald Economy" published an article stating that although the sales volume of imported cars in South Korea last month decreased slightly compared to a year ago, BYD's ATTO 3 has become a best-selling model of imported electric vehicles and has officially begun its market entry into South Korea.

According to statistics from the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA), the number of newly registered imported passenger cars in April was 21,495 units, a decrease of 0.3% compared to the same period last year. It also dropped by 14.8% compared to March. KAIDA Vice President Jung Yun-young explained that "the slight decline in sales is due to the base effect and some brands raising prices."

In terms of brands, BMW ranked first with sales of 6,710 units. Next were Mercedes-Benz (4,908 units), Tesla (1,447 units), Lexus (1,353 units), Porsche (1,077 units), Volvo (1,068 units), Toyota (880 units), and Audi (817 units).

BYD started shipping last month, and its small SUV ATTO 3 sold 543 units, ranking 11th among all imported car brands. It surpassed Land Rover (335 units), Volkswagen (221 units), Polestar (189 units), and Honda (162 units), showcasing its presence.

In particular, the sales of BYD ATTO 3 outperformed Tesla's Model Y Long Range (533 units), Model 3 Long Range (350 units), Model Y (271 units), and Model 3 (238 units), ranking first among imported electric vehicles in South Korea. BYD leads the demand in the South Korean market with its cost-performance strategy; the basic version of ATTO 3 is priced at 31.5 million won (approximately 162,000 RMB), while the ATTO 3 Plus is priced at 33.3 million won (approximately 170,000 RMB). If eligible for electric vehicle subsidies, the price will be even lower.

BYD Korea plans to increase sales by launching new models this year. Following the release of the mid-size electric sedan "Seal" in July, the mid-size electric SUV "Sea Lion 07" is also expected to launch in the second half of the year.

Even when expanding to the global market, BYD's momentum remains strong. According to SNE Research data, BYD's global electric vehicle sales reached 875,000 units in the first quarter, an increase of 50.9% year-on-year. Its global market share also ranked first at 20.8%. On the other hand, Tesla fell to third place with sales of 337,000 units (a share of 8%), a decline of 13%.
