India's Modi Plans to Reorganize Four Theater Commands, Air Chief Says "Not the Best Choice"
Indian Prime Minister Modi is planning a major military reform, aiming to reorganize the existing navy, army, and air force into four theater commands targeting China and Pakistan. However, the Indian Air Force Chief recently expressed caution, stating that this move is not the best choice.
Air Force Chief: Don't Copy Other Countries' Models
According to Bloomberg, on Tuesday, 26th, Indian Air Force Chief Singh publicly stated at the "New Technology and War" seminar held in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, "Rearranging everything now and building a new structure may not be the best way forward."
Singh emphasized that India should not simply copy other countries' "theater commands," nor "need another lower-level framework." He believes that the most important thing currently is to strengthen joint planning and coordination among the three services at the highest level, rather than establishing new commands.
Modi's Military Reform Plan
The report points out that Modi's government plans to integrate the Indian military into four theater commands: one Western Theater Command targeting Pakistan, one Eastern Theater Command targeting China, one Naval Command responsible for the Indian Ocean region, and one Air Defense Command. These commands will unify resources such as warships, soldiers, and fighter jets to respond to border threats.
Although the Indian military has been discussing military reforms since the 1990s, imitating major powers like China and the United States to establish theater commands, Singh holds a different opinion. He pointed out, "Each country has its own needs," and India must assess its own situation, otherwise "we will go down the wrong path."
