The EU will purchase $200 billion worth of energy from the US starting in early 2025, with the share of liquefied natural gas increasing to 60%
Sputnik News, Brussels, November 24 - After meeting with US Secretary of Commerce Rovnick in Brussels, EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Shevchovich stated that since early 2025, the EU has purchased $200 billion worth of energy from the US, with the share of US liquefied natural gas in European imports increasing from 45% to 60%.
Shevchovich said: "The EU is not only committed to fulfilling its obligations, but is also implementing them in practice. The total amount of strategic energy resources, such as liquefied natural gas, nuclear fuel, and oil, purchased by the EU from the US this year has reached $200 billion. Thanks to long-term contracts, the share of US liquefied natural gas imported by the EU has increased from 45% to 60%."
On July 27, EU Commission President von der Leyen reached a trade agreement with US President Trump, stipulating that a 15% tariff will be imposed on almost all goods exported from the EU to the US. In addition, the EU pledged to purchase $750 billion worth of liquefied natural gas, nuclear fuel, and weapons from the US by 2028, as well as $40 billion worth of US chips for its data centers. The EU also plans to significantly increase the procurement of US military and defense equipment.
