According to a report by The Economic Times on April 16, India's exports of Apple-related electronic components to China have reached a record high, partially reshaping the trade dynamics between China and India in the electronics industry. During the fiscal year 2025–26, exports of electronic parts and components from Indian Apple suppliers to China are expected to exceed $3.5 billion, marking early success of the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). As of January 2026, India’s total exports of electronic products to China had already reached $2.8 billion, a significant increase from $920 million in the 2025 fiscal year. Meanwhile, India’s overall exports to China are projected to surpass $18 billion, up from $14.25 billion in the 2024–25 fiscal year. Notably, this surge in exports is entirely driven by Apple-related orders. This shift has been primarily fueled by the dual impact of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and ECMS. With policy support, Apple has established a globally competitive domestic supply chain in India. Over the past five years, the total value of iPhones produced in India has reached $70 billion, making it India’s top export commodity in the 2025–26 fiscal year. Nearly 73% of these iPhones are exported, mainly to the United States. Key exporters include Apple suppliers such as Foxconn and Tata Electronics, whose products include printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), mechanical structural components, casings, and conductive graphite buttons for volume and power keys. Analysts note that PLI has spurred the rise of India’s smartphone final assembly exports, and ECMS is poised to replicate this success in the component segment. It is reported that India is preparing to launch PLI 2.0, aiming to position India as a global hub accounting for 30%–35% of global smartphone manufacturing capacity, while further expanding into China’s electronic components market.
