Russian forces have taken control of the Red Army Village railway station, capturing all military personnel. Ukrainian forces launched a counterattack, which was repelled.

On the morning of August 16, the Russian Aerospace Forces attacked the UAV control point of the Ukrainian 68th Brigade in the city of Red Army Village, and the command post of the Ukrainian 31st Independent Mechanized Brigade in the village of Oleshtympol in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, using FAB-500 glide-guided bombs.

According to intercepted electronic information from the Ukrainian forces, more than a dozen pilots at the UAV control point of the 68th Brigade were killed. The deputy commander of the 31st Independent Mechanized Brigade and two company commanders were also killed.

In the direction of Red Army Village, in the southern part of the front line in Red Army Village, the Russian armed forces have controlled the Red Army Village railway station, captured all military personnel of the Ukrainian railway station, and cleared the southern part of the village.

In the northern part of Red Army Village, the Russian armed forces are about to drive the Ukrainian forces out of the village of Hrybovy, and have bypassed Rogovtsi from the south, and are placing the city under a semi-encirclement.

Additionally, the Russian forces have already started fighting in the suburbs of Shevchenko (the one in the north of Red Army Village, distinct from the one in the south), and fighting has also begun in Novo-Mykolaivka.

In the Golden Well area in the northern part of Red Army Village, the Ukrainian forces have concentrated three reserve brigades and launched counterattacks in the areas of this village and Dobropillya in the direction of Stepy (the second village to the southwest of Golden Well).

This morning, the Russian armed forces repelled the counterattack by the Ukrainian armed forces in the area of the Dobropillya-Kramatorsk highway, and the high ground in the Golden Well area is still under Russian control.

As previously mentioned, the key for the Russian forces in this salient is to hold the Golden Well area and its flanks, preventing the Ukrainian forces from compressing their defensive line, thereby avoiding the risk of being cut off in the middle.​
