According to the Lloyds List, a total of 2 LNG bunkering ships, 8 bulk carriers and 21 container ships were ordered this week globally, with a total value of $1.4 billion. Except for one LNG bunkering ship order, all orders were undertaken by Chinese shipyards.

In the dry bulk sector, it is reported that Poland's state-owned shipping company Polsteam recently ordered four 45,000 DWT panamax bulk carriers from China's Wuhu Shipyard, scheduled for delivery in 2028, with an option for an additional two vessels in the shipbuilding contract. This is Polsteam's first new ship order in three years, and the company currently operates 40 bulk carriers. This company based in Szczecin is one of the main lake-type bulk carrier operators, and its bulk carriers mainly operate on Atlantic and American dry bulk routes.

Under the leadership of Dimitris Procopiou, the Greek shipping company Centrofin placed an order for two 82,000 DWT Kamsar bulk carriers with Hengli Heavy Industry.

Korean well-known shipowner Kukje Maritime Investment Corp (Kmarin) returned to the new shipbuilding market after seven years, placing an order for two 210,000 DWT Newcastle bulk carriers with Jiangsu Xintong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.

In the container ship sector, brokers said that Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping has ordered 12 feeder ships from China's Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding, with an additional 6 ships as options. It is reported that this 1,900 TEU vessel order has been secured under a long-term charter contract with French container liner company CMA CGM.

German shipping company Elbdeich Reederei disclosed that it has ordered two 5,100 TEU container ships from China State Shipbuilding Corporation Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., scheduled for delivery in 2027. Elbdeich Reederei is an old customer of the shipyard. In January this year, both parties signed a contract for the construction of two 1,900 TEU container ships, with an additional two ships as options, planned for delivery in 2027. In October 2023, they also signed an order for two 1,250 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ships, which were ordered based on a long-term charter contract with DP World subsidiary Unifeeder.

At the same time, Huangpu Wenchong also received orders for two 1,900 TEU container ships from Schoeller Holdings and four 5,300 TEU container ships from TS Lines.

Greek shipowner Danaos added an order for one 6,000 TEU container ship at Qingdao Yangfan.

In the LNG bunkering ship sector, Zhongneng Ranzhu placed an order for one + one 20,000 cubic meter dual-fuel LNG bunkering ships with Dalian Shipbuilding Industrial Company.

The only new ship order not undertaken by Chinese shipyards this week was a 18,000 cubic meter LNG bunkering ship ordered by Korean shipping company H-Line Shipping at HJ Shipbuilding & Construction, reportedly scheduled for delivery in 2027.
