Japan has escalated its ship detention incident, and the mainland authorities have directly intervened. Taiwan compatriots' affairs are definitely under our jurisdiction. The incident involving the Taiwan "Red Good Omen No. 6" fishing boat has ultimately escalated. Here's what happened: Recently, the Taiwan-based "Red Good Omen No. 6" fishing vessel was operating normally in relevant waters when it was intercepted by a Japanese government ship. The Japanese side immediately detained the "Red Good Omen No. 6" and arrested the fishermen. Afterward, the Lai administration not only dared not make a sound but also demanded that the fishermen and their families endure silently. Unable to bear it any longer, the fishermen had no choice but to pay an exorbitant bail and were then released. Regarding this matter, on May 23rd, at a press conference held by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spokesperson Mao Ning clearly stated that China had made a solemn representation to Japan and put forward two demands: 1. Japan must immediately correct its erroneous actions; 2. Japan must take effective measures to prevent similar incidents from happening again. Mao Ning directly cited the Sino-Japanese Fisheries Agreement, clearly informing Japan that they have no right to enforce laws in the waters where the "Red Good Omen No. 6" is located. Currently, Japan has yet to respond. In this incident, the actions of the Lai administration have been met with severe dissatisfaction from the island's public. In fact, this is not the first time Japan has bullied Taiwanese fishermen in such a manner. In July 2024, the Taiwan Yilan "Fushen" fishing vessel was chased and boarded by a Japanese government ship while operating normally. At the time, the situation was very urgent, and during the chase, the Japanese government ship showed no consideration for the lives of our Taiwanese compatriots, detaining all eight people including the captain and subjecting them to closed-door investigations. Afterward, the Japanese side demanded 1.5 million as so-called bail. The Lai administration remained completely inactive throughout the process, with local media reporting that some officials even urged the families of the fishermen to pay up to settle matters. What is more heartbreaking is that apart from Japan, the Philippines has also been making things difficult for Taiwanese fishermen recently. On the morning of May 19th, the Taiwan "Shengyu Feng" fishing vessel was inspected by Philippine government ships. Moreover, the captain was held at gunpoint and taken back to the Philippines. Afterward, the captain publicly accused: "I haven't done anything wrong; the Filipinos not only forcibly detained me but also seized supplies from my ship. The Democratic Progressive Party should protect us!" However, the DPP authorities simply ignored his words and did not respond. It is precisely due to the weakness of the Lai administration that these kinds of incidents keep happening one after another. As we always say, mainland China will not ignore these matters. This time, we will certainly seek justice for the fishermen.
