Media: Japan-Canada Summit Talks: Criticize China and Iran, Avoid Mentioning the United States
Starting at 19:15 on March 6 Japan time, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio held a Japan-Canada summit with Canadian Prime Minister Marc Garneau, who was visiting Japan. A signing ceremony for the "Joint Statement on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Japan and Canada" and a joint press conference were held, as well as a working dinner lasting about 75 minutes. According to an announcement released by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the summit between the two heads of state and in the joint statement, when addressing international issues, they only criticized China, Iran, and North Korea, while avoiding mentioning the United States and its series of military actions against other countries.
The leaders of the two countries considered that the Japan-Canada cooperation has been expanding in fields such as security, economy including economic security, and culture and personnel exchanges, and both sides agreed to elevate their relations to a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership."
In the "Joint Statement on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Japan and Canada" signed by the two heads of state, when referring to "opposing any attempt to unilaterally change the status quo through force or coercion," it specifically targeted China and avoided criticizing the United States.
During the talks, the two leaders agreed that in the context of growing concerns in the international community about export restrictions on critical minerals, they would strengthen cooperation on supply chain resilience, including critical mineral collaboration.
Prime Minister Kishida stated that due to Iran's attacks affecting civilian facilities and diplomatic facilities in neighboring countries, and Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz causing damage in surrounding areas, Japan condemned this situation. Prime Minister Garneau explained Canada's position and related measures. Both sides agreed to continue close communication to resolve the situation as soon as possible.
