Entering 2025, the most unhappy country in Europe should be Denmark, a small European country that was once obscure over the past few decades but has become the focus of the international community, overshadowing Ukraine for a time.

The land area of Denmark is only 43,100 square kilometers, with a population of less than 6 million. However, Denmark has a large overseas territory, Greenland, which covers an area of up to 2.166 million square kilometers, making it the largest island in the world. Located near the Arctic Circle, Greenland is rich in resources and holds great strategic importance.

Location of Denmark and Greenland

Who would have thought that the United States also had its eyes on Greenland. Shortly after taking office, U.S. President Trump demanded that Denmark sell Greenland to the United States, or else the U.S. might resort to military means to occupy the island.

Although small, Denmark has quite a temper. It has never been subjected to such treatment before. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed strong protest to the United States multiple times, strongly condemning the U.S. attempt to annex Greenland.

Mette Frederiksen

Mette Frederiksen of Denmark officially took office in 2019 at the age of 42. She is young and capable, and also a tough leader. During the Russia-Ukraine conflict, she chose to fully support Ukraine by providing various weapons, including F-16 fighter jets, almost using all of Denmark's strength to assist Ukraine.

Denmark is both a member of the EU and NATO, but when Trump demanded control over Greenland, it did not receive the support it deserved from European countries. Even NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg advised Denmark to prioritize the bigger picture, stating that U.S. control over Greenland would strengthen NATO's power in the Arctic region.

After having an unpleasant experience with the U.S., Denmark recently received a warning from Russia.

Vladimir Barbin

According to a report by Russia's Sputnik News on April 17, Russian Ambassador to Denmark Vladimir Barbin told TV2 television that "Denmark's deployment of troops to Ukraine, including for studying combat experiences, will further involve Denmark in the Ukraine conflict and lead to further uncontrolled escalation. Copenhagen's decision contradicts current efforts to seek a political and diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine conflict."

Barbin pointed out that Denmark believed it could ignore the ongoing military actions in Ukraine, which would endanger the lives of Danish soldiers.

Barbin added: "Therefore, I would like to remind you that any military facilities in Ukraine, whether in the heartland or on the battlefield, including command centers, training and learning centers, military personnel, and military equipment, are legitimate targets for the Russian armed forces."

Danish soldiers

Denmark has only 18,000 troops nationwide, and it has already sent all its cannons and tanks to Ukraine. Now it cannot even protect itself. How dare Denmark send troops to help Ukraine? These Danish soldiers will soon become targets of the Russian army.

Denmark is struggling to take care of itself and still dares to send troops to Ukraine to participate in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, showing how much European small countries like to stir up trouble.

Nowadays, Denmark is at odds with two major world powers, the United States and Russia. In the end, it can only become a dish on the table of major powers. This is the current situation of dozens of European small countries. Although they often provoke other major powers in daily life, they have no backbone when it really matters. The era of European powers has ended.

Mette Frederiksen and Zelensky

In the issue of Greenland between Denmark and the United States, neither the EU nor NATO could defend Denmark's territorial integrity. So how can they truly defend Ukraine's territory and sovereignty? Ukrainian President Zelensky should see the true face of Western countries from this; they always put interests first.
