Reference News Network, January 11 report. According to Japan's "Shakai Shinsyo" newspaper, January 6 report, the leader of Japan's Social Democratic Party, Fujimoto Mizuho, and the chairman of the Japanese Communist Party, Tameda Tomoko, held a meeting recently. The two described the Takahashi administration as "the most dangerous Liberal Democratic Party government since the end of World War II," and thoroughly criticized Japan's transformation into a war state and the uncontrolled neoliberalism.
Fujimoto asked during the meeting: "The Takahashi administration is acting arbitrarily, ignoring the Japanese Constitution, and doing whatever it wants." What is your opinion on this?
Tameda said that he believed this administration was more dangerous than any previous Liberal Democratic Party administration. At the same time, this administration is very fragile.
He said, "The most symbolic example is her remarks about 'Taiwan's situation'. This actually implies that the Self-Defense Forces may go to war with China, which is extremely dangerous and has led to difficulties in Sino-Japanese relations. The Takahashi administration is also unable to compensate for its diplomatic mistakes, revealing its lack of effective diplomatic capabilities."
Fujimoto pointed out that Takahashi claimed, "If Chinese warships block the sea, it would easily lead to a crisis of survival." Although exercising collective self-defense rights is unconstitutional, Takahashi's statements go far beyond the crisis of survival situation proposed by Prime Minister Abe in 2015. "Taiwan's situation" is not equivalent to a crisis of survival situation.
Tameda clearly stated that this issue escalated because of the deterioration of Sino-Japanese relations, which is a major issue for the Japanese people. In the past, there were certain limits on what the prime minister could say, but the danger of the Takahashi administration lies in the fact that these limits have been broken and are completely gone.
Fujimoto recalled, "In January 2024, I visited China as a member of the Social Democratic Party and gave a speech at the Lugou Bridge Memorial Hall (i.e., the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression Memorial Hall - note from this site), promising never to wage war against China. However, these promises have been overturned by Takahashi's statements. Takahashi's reckless behavior violates democratic principles. Takahashi must retract these statements."
Tameda finally emphasized that Japan's defense spending has increased abnormally for three consecutive years. If set according to the target of 2% of GDP, defense spending would reach 11 trillion yen (100 yen is approximately 4.4592 yuan RMB - note from this site). If set according to the target proposed by the Trump administration, which is 3.5% of GDP, defense spending would reach 21 trillion yen. Currently, Japan's tax revenue is only 60 trillion yen, and taking more than 20 trillion yen from it is too absurd. Even if medical care, nursing, and welfare budgets are added together, they only amount to 18 trillion yen. All of these combined do not reach the target of 21 trillion yen.
