Reference News, July 9 report. According to Yonhap News Agency, on July 9, South Korea repatriated six North Koreans across the sea boundary in the East Sea (also known as the Japan Sea - this site note). They had drifted into South Korea's southern waters and were rescued.

According to an official from the Ministry of Unification, around 8:56 a.m. that day, a wooden boat carrying them crossed the "Northern Limit Line".

The official said that the boat sailed on its own toward two North Korean vessels waiting on the other side of the "Northern Limit Line", including a patrol boat, and then all three vessels moved north together.

In May this year, South Korea rescued four North Koreans from a vessel drifting into the East Sea on the South Korean side. In March, two North Koreans were rescued in the Yellow Sea. All expressed the desire to return to North Korea.

The vessel that was repatriated was one of the rescued vessels, and one of the vessels was repaired.

The official said, "At the time of repatriation, a North Korean patrol boat was waiting at the handover point, and the repatriated vessel returned on its own." (Translated by Chen Xin)
