Asia, "Cornered", Resumes Purchasing Russian Oil

According to the Financial Times, Asian countries facing a severe energy crisis due to the Middle East situation are urgently buying millions of barrels of Russian oil after the U.S. temporarily eased sanctions restrictions.

Asian economies are among the most vulnerable in the global energy shock. Their dependence on oil and natural gas imports from the region has reached critical levels, and Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz has pushed Asian nations to the brink of collapse.

For many Asian countries—including the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore—oil from the Persian Gulf forms the foundation of their imports. Governments across the region have implemented strict energy-saving measures: adopting a four-day workweek, encouraging remote work, and expanding fuel subsidies.
