Intense fighting: Ukraine evacuates 3,000 children and the elderly from two cities
Ukraine - Ukrainian authorities ordered the evacuation of more than 3,000 children and their parents from about 44 towns and villages in Zaporijjia and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts on Friday. In recent months, Russian forces have made advances in these war zones.
Oleksiy Kuleba, Ukraine's Minister for Rebuilding, said on Telegram: "Due to the serious security situation, we have decided to forcibly evacuate more than 3,000 children and their parents from 44 towns and villages in the frontline areas of Zaporijjia and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts."
According to him, similar evacuations were also carried out in the Chernihiv oblast in northern Ukraine at the end of December last year.
Kuleba said: "Since June 1, 2025, 150,000 people have been evacuated from frontline areas to safer regions, including nearly 18,000 children." The Ukrainian authorities' announcement of the evacuation of civilians highlights the scale of the Russian advance on the front lines, as the current offensive now threatens new settlements.
In recent years, most of the civilian evacuations in Ukraine have taken place in the Donetsk region in the east, which has also been the most intense battlefield. However, Russian forces are also advancing into the Dnipropetrovsk oblast (which Russia entered in the summer of 2025) and the Zaporijjia oblast (where the front line has been stagnant for years).
