India's shipbuilding industry has received a historic order!

According to a report by the Indian media "Economic Times", CMA CGM, a major French maritime company, has purchased a batch of LNG-powered container ships. The order consists of 6 ships with a total value of as high as $300 million.

This is the largest order ever received by India's shipbuilding industry in its history, and it is also a moment of glory for the Indian shipbuilding industry, injecting a strong stimulus into the struggling Indian shipbuilding industry, and giving India confidence to take a share of the pie under the huge glow of China's shipbuilding industry.

Envious of the rapid development and advanced level of China's shipbuilding industry, India has also increased support for its shipbuilding industry in recent years, introducing various supporting policies. In September, India launched a package of 56 billion RMB to enhance the capabilities of the shipbuilding industry. The Kochi Shipyard in India, which received this $300 million order, may be the biggest beneficiary. According to the policy, for every ship built, the Kochi Shipyard will receive an additional 25% government subsidy.

However, at the same time, if Indian shipyards want to rise, there are still many difficulties. First of all, the shipbuilding industry is a labor-intensive industry that requires a large number of various skilled workers, such as welders, and India obviously lags far behind China in the training of skilled workers.

Secondly, in key technologies, India relies heavily on imports, such as ship engines, propulsion systems, and navigation equipment.

Although India claims to enter the top ten global shipbuilding industries by 2030, and by 2050 it is expected to closely follow China, the road ahead for India is still long.
