Foreign media: In the first half of 2026, China's electricity exports to ASEAN surged by 42.9% to 2.39 billion kilowatt-hours, alleviating energy market volatility triggered by tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.

Myanmar was the biggest growth driver, with electricity imports from China nearly doubling in the first five months. Meanwhile, overall Chinese electricity exports to ASEAN rose by 34.6%, while intermediate goods trade reached 2.86 trillion yuan, up 24.5%.

A spokesperson for the General Administration of Customs pointed out that electricity exports have supported production and daily life in ASEAN countries, highlighting China's rising role as a regional energy supplier and providing an alternative energy source for Southeast Asian nations concerned about energy security.
