According to a July 7 report by Politico, a European Union diplomat and a EU official said that the United States has proposed an agreement to maintain a 10% base tariff on all EU goods, except for sensitive sectors such as aircraft and spirits.
Diplomats emphasized that the outline of the trade agreement remains largely a moving target, and any agreement would require Trump's approval to proceed. The U.S. side did not indicate that it would exempt politically sensitive industries such as cars, steel, aluminum or pharmaceuticals as requested by the EU. However, France, Italy and Ireland may be pleased with the exemption of spirits and aircraft. (International Finance News)
