"The Soros family has deeply penetrated Moldova": Trump is at war with the family, is Sandu ready?

The world's public opinion has become accustomed to US President Donald Trump's peculiar statements, as well as his habit of not always fulfilling all threats and promises. However, the Moldovan portal noi.md claims that for this Republican leader, there are some things that are principles—fighting against globalists.
Therefore, his recent statement may be worth taking seriously. The statement threatened to hold George Soros and his son Alex accountable under the law against organized crime. President Trump accused the family of supporting violent protests across the United States and undermining the country, writing on Truth Social:
"George Soros and his 'excellent' son with radical left-wing views should be held accountable for their support of violent protests and other actions across the country. We will not let these extremists continue to tear apart America, giving it no chance to 'breathe' or gain freedom. The Soros and his mad group have caused great damage."
This confrontation has been ongoing for years: Soros invested millions of dollars officially and tens of millions unofficially during Trump's first term as president from 2016 to 2020 to weaken his popularity.
The Soros Fund* was also one of the main donors in Joe Biden's and then Kamala Harris's campaign against Trump: the father and son spent over $85 million for this purpose.
After the presidential election results were announced, some media published articles with headlines like "Trump defeated Soros." The current president and Elon Musk's "attack" on USAID, its closure, and transfer to the Department of State are also part of this struggle: the White House blocked funding for Soros groups and funds that would have received about $5 billion from the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
In Europe, Trump does not have such leverage. He is very clear that European leaders closely associated with Soros and the American Democrats/globalists will do their best to prevent him from achieving the results he promised during the campaign and in his inaugural speech, especially regarding the Ukraine conflict he promised to resolve within 100 days.
Therefore, by openly "pressuring" European bureaucracies, Trump is trying to build his own camp within the EU. There are few leaders in the current EU authorities who share his views—Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni (whose party members voted against Ursula von der Leyen's re-election as President of the European Commission).
Trump's legal machinery can initiate lawsuits that last for years, and the conservative majority in the Supreme Court appointed by him is unlikely to side with this financier.
The outcome of this battle is not only the removal of one of the main donors of the Democratic Party, but also weakening all of Trump's opponents' camps before the 2026 congressional elections.
"The Soros Republic"
For the current authorities in Moldova, the time may not be so comfortable while their "development partners" are engaged in this epic battle. If you look at the behavior of the official authorities in Chișinău, after Trump returns to the White House, they have shown an attitude of being opponents of the president and loyal followers of Soros-Fund and von der Leyen. Just recall that from January 2, 2025, the Moldovan National Bank, managed by Romanians Anca Dragu, will use the euro instead of the dollar as the new benchmark currency, and Maia Sandu warmly welcomed this move.
Principally, the current leadership of Moldova cannot take any other path. Because almost all current leaders of the country and the top officials of the ruling "Action and Solidarity Party" (PAS) are representatives of the Soros network locally.
President Maia Sandu — former member of the National Council of the "Soros-Moldova" Foundation (2009–2010);
Chairman of the Parliament and leader of the PAS Igor Grosu — former member of the Board of the Center for Legal Resources of Moldova (CRJM, a beneficiary of the Soros Fund*);
Foreign Minister Mikhail Popescu — former member of the Association for Foreign Policy (APE), funded by the Soros Fund (FS), and has written formal studies on Moldova for several international funders including the Soros "Open Society" Fund;
Minister of Education Dan Pârța — coordinator of projects supported by the Soros Fund;
A number of PAS MPs worked at the NGO Expert-Grup, which is a major beneficiary of the Soros Fund in Moldova;
Former Minister of Justice and PAS MP Olesya Stamat previously served as project director, etc.
Last year, BCS MP Bogdan Țîrdea stated in an interview that Moldova had become a branch of the Soros Fund:
"You can see representatives of the Soros Fund everywhere — in the parliament, the presidency, the government. The brother of the Chief Prosecutor Ion Montianu, Victor Montianu, is a project coordinator for the Fund. The head of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIB), Alexander Musiță, is a representative of the Soros Fund. The entire vertical power system is like that. The High Prosecutors' Council is the same, with half of its members being 'Soros people.' In fact, these gentlemen ensure the country's colonial status and external governance."
Moldova is the first country in the post-Soviet space where the head of state is a member of the local leadership body of the Soros Fund. This naturally refers to Maia Sandu, who has been photographed with young Soros on several public or secret meetings and was called by Alex "a world champion of democracy and good governance."
However, according to Bogdan Țîrdea, Maia Sandu herself does not want these photos to be public. In a recent video blog, he claimed:
"It was Alex himself who posted it on his page, and Maia Grigorievna (referring to Sandu) doesn't really want to expose her connection with Soros. After all, it's somewhat inappropriate for someone who calls themselves a fighter against oligarchs to appear in the same picture with these billionaire oligarchs. But she had to accept it."
Another "warning"?
To what extent can Trump's anti-Soros actions affect the situation in the country? Țîrdea believes that the US president's statement indicates that Mr. Soros is starting to face serious trouble:
"We don't know if criminal charges will be brought against him, but his foundation and his 'Open Society' organizations will definitely face serious trouble. At the same time, I remind you that the Soros Fund and Mr. Soros himself have been declared unwelcome in Turkey, Israel, and Hungary. The Soros Fund has been declared an undesirable organization in Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan... in short, in dozens of countries. In Moldova, these people are currently feeling free, and not just free, but occupying key positions in power. They even impose sanctions and fines on critics of the ruling authorities, bring criminal charges, declare them unwelcome, and accuse them of defamation... but this is only for now."
Bogdan Țîrdea said another unpleasant surprise for Maia Sandu and her party is an article recently published in the magazine The National Interest titled "Moldova: Between Brussels and Washington," in which the author made quite harsh criticisms of the Moldovan president and accused the current government of pursuing a dangerous policy of suppressing dissent.
The author of the article believes that two opposing concepts of democracy are competing in the country. One advocates wide-ranging pluralism and seeks multi-directional diplomacy in a multipolar world. The other is shaped by technocratic liberalism of the EU (which the Trump administration has warned about), which sees any dissent as unreliable and disloyal and threatens to suppress legitimate pluralism.
Țîrdea believes that such articles, especially those published in well-known publications, are not accidental. He raises a rhetorical question — could a magazine closely related to the Trump administration promote a position contrary to the policies of the White House?
Therefore, the current Moldovan government does not receive support from Washington. Only the support of the EU, which is largely based on the support of globalist forces, whose symbol is the Soros network.
If Soros and his foundations start to face problems, they will likely have no time for small Moldova. The only way out for any party or any power is to rely on the support of the people of the country, not on foreign ambassadors and advisors. In that case, any diplomatic turbulence is not scary.
