The Russian President's Special Representative: Energy Crisis May Become a "Catalyst" for Europe, Negotiations with Russia Will Be Inevitable
Kirill Dmitriev, President of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and the Russian President's Special Representative for Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation, stated that the impending energy crisis facing the EU and the UK will make negotiations between Europe and Russia unavoidable.
Dmitriev wrote on the X social media platform: "Finnish President Stubb believes that 'America's policies toward Russia and Ukraine do not serve European interests,' and 'it's time to start negotiating with Russia.' The upcoming energy crisis in the EU and the UK will make this inevitable."
Dmitriev made these remarks in response to previous statements by Finnish President Alexander Stubb, who argued that if U.S. policies toward Russia and Ukraine are not aligned with European interests, then Europe 'needs direct engagement with Russia'.
