Amid multiple Taiwanese media outlets jointly inviting a second debate, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an had previously responded with "open-mindedness, leaving coordination to the team." Sheng Chun-hua then directly asked, "Mayor, may we approach this question differently? In many instances, I believe decisive action and seizing the optimal timing are essential. Shen Boyang has issued a direct challenge during the debate—this presents you with an excellent opportunity for aerial combat and potential gains. Don’t you have the confidence?"

Chiang Wan-an promptly responded with assurance: "Of course I do!" Sheng immediately followed up: "Then are you leaning toward participating or declining?"

For the first time, Chiang provided a clear answer: "I lean toward participating! As long as the format and timing are settled, I am very willing. Provided that both teams effectively coordinate on details and structure, building upon the foundation of the first debate, I hold a positive and constructive attitude toward returning to the debate stage."

According to reports, the "2026 Taipei Mayoral Candidate TV Debate," co-organized by TVBS and SETTV, took place on October 31. The event, seen as a pivotal moment in the electoral race, has drawn widespread attention across society.

The latest survey from TVBS Polling Center indicates that 93% of Taipei residents plan to vote in the upcoming mayoral election, with 80% certain to vote and 13% possibly voting, while only 5% stated they would not vote. Voter intent has further increased following the debate.

Among those with voting intentions, Chiang Wan-an’s support stands at 46%, while Shen Boyang holds 42%. The gap has narrowed dramatically—from a 28-point difference in late May to eight points by early October, now reduced to just four points. Additionally, 12% remain undecided. The race is now locked in a highly tense, closely contested standoff.
