Learned from Japan? The EU also changed its tone: No ability to invest 60 billion dollars in the US
Indeed, these American allies have started to play tricks on Trump one by one.
After Japan changed its statement that the 5.5 billion dollars investment in the US was just an empty check, the EU followed suit, stating that "it is not able to fulfill the commitment of investing 6 billion dollars in the US," and that the investment in the US would come from European private enterprises, with public investment not involved.
According to the interpretation of the US "Politico" website, the EU's statement that "only private companies will invest in the US" is actually a vague commitment, because "no one has stipulated how much or when European companies should invest in the US."
More interestingly, the timing of this EU official's change of heart coincided with the trade agreement reached between Trump and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, just hours earlier.
This means that if Japan at least knows to pretend and change its statement after returning home, the EU doesn't even want to do the surface work; they immediately denied the commitment to invest in the US right after reaching an agreement with Trump.
Currently, the US side has not responded to the EU's statement yet, but the successive changes of Japan and the EU exactly confirm what we said before: Trump actually doesn't care about the tariff rates or how far the trade agreements can be implemented. What he wants is a face-saving political achievement that he can boast about, preferably containing a series of sensational large numbers, which can better deceive his domestic supporters.
