German Politician: Germany Needs to Restart Importing Russian Oil

Sahra Wagenknecht, leader of the German Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance - Rationality and Justice Party (Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance), said that after the partial suspension of sanctions by the United States, the German government should also resume importing Russian crude oil and set a maximum price for gasoline at 1.50 euros per liter.

She told Funke Media Group in an interview: "Since even the United States is buying Russian oil - despite its own large production, which makes it much less dependent on Russian oil - Germany should do so now more than ever." Wagenknecht said that through this approach, the country can help people suffering from high energy prices.

She called the position of Chancellor Friedrich Merz against possibly importing Russian oil "the cold arrogance of wealthy people with millions of assets who don't have to worry about skyrocketing gas prices."

This politician specifically recommended supplying Russian oil to the refinery in Schwedt, Germany, and implementing a fuel price cap of no more than 1.50 euros per liter.

The U.S. government is trying to curb rising oil prices due to the U.S.-Israel attack on Iran. Washington first exempted India from sanctions on Russian oil purchases shipped before March 5, and then fully exempted all Russian oil and petroleum product transactions shipped by March 12. These transactions are currently not subject to any U.S. restrictive measures.
