Ichirō Ozawa: How can Takashi improve without reflection?
As reported by Japanese media Jcast NEWS on August 12: Japanese politician and former member of the Center-Right Reform Alliance, Ichirō Ozawa, updated his X account on August 12, 2026.
Ozawa criticized Prime Minister Sanae Takashi's stance. The post referenced a report about a press conference held on July 27. Journalists noted a decline in cabinet approval ratings; when asked what needed to be reflected upon from the special parliamentary session that concluded on July 25, Takashi replied: "There is nothing particularly worth reflecting on."
Ozawa pointed out: "Not reflecting means she won’t grow. It’s precisely because this person has never genuinely reflected until now that we’re facing such a situation today." Ozawa added: "In the end, it’s the voters who supported her who are suffering the consequences."
Ozawa’s post triggered strong reactions: "She thinks she’ll lose if she reflects," and "This outcome is exactly due to her shallow and childish belief that she’s infallible."
Furthermore, a public opinion survey released by NHK in mid-August showed that the approval rating for Takashi’s cabinet had dropped by five percentage points from July, falling to 53%. Meanwhile, the disapproval rate rose by six percentage points to 33%.
