Korea's KDX III Batch II lead ship, "Jungsoo Wang," is also the first ship equipped with the KVLS-II weapon system.
Korea held a ceremony marking the completion of the plan to develop the KVLS-II shipborne launcher for next-generation guided weapons.
In a statement released on the same day, Hanwha Aerospace's Changwon factory held a ceremony to commemorate this project milestone.
The company stated in the statement that this marked the climax of five years of development efforts led by external institutions and government agencies.
The KVLS-II project was initially supervised by the Korea Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), but later was further developed and produced by Hanwha Aerospace.
Under its supervision, DAPA has invested approximately 71 billion won (51 million USD) in the program, and the agency also issued a separate statement on September 25 to commemorate this milestone.
KVLS-II is an evolution of Korea's independently developed vertical launch system (K-VLS).
Compared to its predecessor, the KVLS-II can better withstand the high temperature and high pressure exhaust during launch, allowing it to accommodate larger and more capable missile types.
