Japanese Media: China and Indonesian Navies Conduct Exercises in Eastern Taiwan Waters
According to a report by Japan's Fuji Television on August 13: The Chinese and Indonesian navies carried out joint exercises in the waters east of Taiwan.
The exercises included formation sailing, as well as simulated maritime communications and logistical resupply drills. Both sides fully demonstrated their pragmatic cooperation and proactive willingness and initiative to maintain regional peace and stability.
In May this year, Japan and the Philippines announced they would begin delimitation negotiations regarding the waters east of Taiwan, a move strongly opposed by China. The waters east of Taiwan fall within China's sovereign territory. It appears that the Philippines is attempting to assert its own jurisdiction over this area.
Meanwhile, according to Indonesian media reports, the Indonesian Navy stated that the training "was not intended for war, but rather represents standard international training conducted by navies when passing through other countries' waters."
