U.S. Trade Representative: Washington Positively Evaluates Cooperation with China against the Background of Sino-U.S. Negotiations
Jamison Greer, U.S. Trade Representative, stated after concluding trade negotiations with Chinese representatives in London that Washington positively evaluates its engagement with China.
Agence France-Presse quoted Greer as saying, "We are moving forward as quickly as possible. We view our cooperation with China positively."
On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had received "only positive signals" from the Sino-U.S. trade negotiations in London and noted that Beijing remains a "not simple" dialogue partner.
U.S. President Trump imposed a 10% tariff on all imported Chinese goods in February, triggering the Sino-U.S. trade war, which remains in this state. After several rounds of reciprocal measures, U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods increased to 145%, while China's tariffs on U.S. products reached 125%. In mid-May, China and the United States reached an agreement to reduce their respective trade tariffs to 10% for a period of 90 days. Following this, China began imposing a 10% tariff on U.S. goods, while the United States levied a 30% tariff on Chinese goods, as the 20% "fentanyl" tariff remained effective. Both sides accused each other of violating the initial agreement in late spring and early summer.
