South Korean Acting President: Trump Seems to Instruct Immediate Start of Tariff Negotiations with South Korea
According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korean Acting Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said on April 14 that U.S. President Trump seems to have instructed relevant departments to immediately start tariff negotiations with South Korea, Japan, and India.
Han Duck-soo made the remarks while presiding over a meeting of the economic security strategy task force at the Prime Minister's Office in Samcheong-dong, Seoul. He stated that the South Korean side had thoroughly understood the U.S.'s related moves through a combination of government and civilian efforts, and had detailed the key points and directions for consultations to Trump, who expressed satisfaction with it.
Han Duck-soo said that South Korea and the United States are expected to hold a video conference within the next one or two days regarding the Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) pipeline project, and will establish consultation systems in all fields to strive for early concrete results.
Han Duck-soo also said that in addition to tariffs, the government will continue communication with the U.S. at all levels in combination with common concerns such as LNG and shipbuilding cooperation, seeking mutual benefits. He emphasized that if necessary, he would also communicate directly with Trump to push for problem-solving.
