South Korea and the United States begin negotiations on Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG).

On the 14th, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who is acting as the acting president, said, "We will hold a South Korea-US video conference about Alaska liquefied natural gas (LNG) in one or two days."

Han Duck-soo stated at the meeting of the Economic Security Strategy Special Task Force (TF) held that day at the Prime Minister's Office in Seongdeok-dong, Seoul: "South Korea and the United States have decided to strengthen cooperation in three major areas: shipbuilding, liquefied natural gas, and improving and restoring trade balance, creating a friendly momentum for continuous discussions between the two countries. With the occasion of the Alaska LNG project negotiation, the South Korean government will strive to minimize the burden caused by tariffs in the future."

The Alaska LNG project is an energy infrastructure project to develop natural gas fields in northern Alaska, USA. The goal is to transport the natural gas produced from the natural gas fields in northern Alaska through a 1,300-kilometer pipeline to Nikiski in the southern coast for processing into LNG for export. The total project cost is expected to reach $44 billion.
