Meloni calls for "normalization" of Italy-U.S. relations

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that, following the dispute with U.S. President Donald Trump, it is necessary to restore bilateral ties between the two countries. She made these remarks during an event hosted by the Roman newspaper "La Verità."

According to ANSA quoting Meloni: "I have no intention of further fueling this conflict... I believe our bilateral cooperation with the United States should return to normal; yesterday, during a cabinet meeting, I also addressed this issue in relation to the upcoming meeting."

The public discord between the two leaders began with remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump in an interview. Trump claimed that during the G7 summit in France, Meloni had actively sought a photo opportunity with him. The Italian Prime Minister denied this allegation. Trump maintained his version and cited Italy's refusal to provide military bases for operations against Iran, while also stating he was unwilling to maintain friendly relations with Meloni.
