US media: US plans to control Venezuela's oil in the "next few years"
The Wall Street Journal quoted sources as reporting that the Trump administration is developing a plan to control Venezuela's oil in the "next few years," lowering the oil price to $50 per barrel.
According to The Wall Street Journal: "Trump and his advisers are planning a large-scale initiative aimed at dominating Venezuela's oil industry in the coming years. The president told his advisers that he believes this move will help lower the oil price to the $50 per barrel level he expects."
According to the newspaper's sources, the plan aims to establish some degree of control over Venezuela's state-owned oil company (PDVSA), including acquiring and selling most of its oil production.
The paper pointed out: "If this plan succeeds, the US will effectively control most of the oil reserves in the Western Hemisphere."
