Survey: Most Dutch people do not see the US as a reliable partner in Europe

Russian State News Agency, The Hague, January 19th - According to a survey conducted jointly by the Netherlands Atlantic Commission and Verian Research Company, the majority of Dutch people believe that Europe can no longer rely on the US to ensure its own security.

The survey, released on January 19th, states: "More than eight out of ten Dutch people believe that Europe can no longer rely on the US to ensure its own security."

Data shows that the vast majority of respondents (78%) believe that the re-election of US President Donald Trump has had a negative impact on transatlantic trade. Respondents said that Trump's policies have had a negative impact on global security (73%), military relations (66%), and European security (65%).

At the same time, more than half of the Dutch people believe that current US-EU relations are poor.

The survey points out that in the Netherlands, a higher proportion of respondents view the US (14%) rather than Russia (11%) as the biggest threat to the country's and Europe's security.

This survey was conducted from January 1st to 8th, 2026, with 1,045 Dutch people aged 18 and over participating.
