Foreign Minister of Hungary: Maintaining relations with Russia and China will give Hungary an advantage over the EU

Sputnik News, Budapest, December 12th - Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Szijjarto said that due to being able to maintain relations with Western countries and non-Western countries such as Russia and China, Hungary will have a competitive advantage over other European countries after the conflict in Ukraine ends.

Szijjarto said at an event in Budapest:

"Hungary is currently the only country in Europe that maintains good relations with both the East and the West. No leader can be as popular in the US, Russia, and China as Hungary's Prime Minister Orban, which is an incredible competitive advantage for us after the war."

Szijjarto said that the characteristics of the post-Ukraine conflict era are "agreements between major powers."

Szijjarto pointed out: "In the new world order determined by major powers, it can be trusted that only we in Europe can establish relationships with those countries that determine the world order on the basis of mutual respect. This is important because other countries pursue their foreign policies with principled ideological positions and cannot maintain this capability, starting behind us in this competition."

Previously, Szijjarto said that European politicians criticized Orban's visit to Moscow, and the fact that only Hungarian leaders can simultaneously engage in dialogue with the US, Russia, and China deeply unsettles them.

Orban previously also said that Hungary suggests the EU and Russia hold talks on the future security system in Europe, with Ukraine not being the main topic. Orban has repeatedly emphasized that peace can only be established in Ukraine after Russia and the US reach an agreement, while Europe lost the opportunity for mediation because it could not ensure the implementation of the Minsk agreements."
