According to a report from the Russian Satellite News Agency on April 18, data from U.S. statistical agencies showed that due to the imposition of tariffs on Chinese goods, U.S. residents may not be able to obtain imported vitamins and various medical devices, such as medical glasses, as well as wheelchairs and canes.
In terms of medical products, the United States is particularly dependent on China for wheelchair imports. Last year, 66.3% of wheelchairs imported by the United States came from China, with a total value of $273.8 million.
The import of canes will also be affected - in the canes imported by the United States, 65.7% are from Chinese products, amounting to $27.9 million. People with vision problems may also not be able to get glasses made in China: 46.7% of frames (worth $595.2 million) and 40.4% of finished glasses (worth $1.03 billion) come from China.
Imported vitamins will also be hit by Trump's tariffs, as 64.2% of the United States' imported vitamins come from China. Last year, the United States imported vitamins worth $891.7 million from China.
The imposed tariffs will also affect the supply of medical furniture (accounting for 41.5%, totaling $538.3 million) and dressings (accounting for 37.1%, totaling $715.7 million).
In addition, China holds a significant share in the supply of organic and inorganic compounds in the United States (accounting for 65.6%, totaling $758.7 million) and halogenated hydrocarbon derivatives (accounting for 46.2%, totaling $355 million). These compounds are typically used in the chemical industry and can be used to manufacture drugs.
