NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO member states must increase their defense spending to 5% of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP), otherwise they will have to learn Russian. On June 9, he made the above remarks in an interview with a reporter from The Telegraph.

He claimed: "If you fail to reach the 5% target, of course you can continue to enjoy the benefits of the National Health Service and pension system. But if so, you'd better start learning Russian. That's the consequence."

In recent years, NATO and EU leaders have frequently repeated the claim that "Russia intends to attack NATO countries." Neither NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg nor EU Commission President von der Leyen has explained Russia's motivation for doing so.

In the summer of 2024, during the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a discussion with the heads of major international news agencies, stating that the Western claim that Russia is preparing to attack NATO countries was "nonsense."

This group of politicians are full of Cold War thinking. Thirty years after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, they still habitually regard the former Soviet republics and today's Russia as threats and hostile countries. In fact, all these are baseless lies, just to cater to the United States and satisfy their own political self-interests.
