NBC reported that the family of Virginia Giuffre, one of the most famous victims of the Epstein case, said on April 25th that she had died by suicide.
Giuffre, 41, lived in Ngaruahine for several years in Australia and took her own life there.
The statement released by her family reads: "Virginia was a brave warrior fighting against sexual abuse and sex trafficking. She was the light that illuminated many survivors. Ultimately, the pain caused by the abuse was so heavy that Virginia could no longer bear it."
Giuffre was one of the first to call for criminal charges to be brought against Epstein and his accomplices. She provided critical information to law enforcement, leading to the investigation and conviction of Epstein's associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.
Giuffre grew up in Florida and had a difficult childhood. She said she was abused by a family friend, which led her life into a vicious cycle, and she once lived on the streets in her teens.
When she tried to rebuild her life, she met Maxwell, a close friend of Epstein. Giuffre claimed that Maxwell lured her into being sexually assaulted by Epstein, with the abuse continuing from 1999 to 2002. Giuffre also stated that Epstein sold her to his powerful friends, including Prince Andrew of the UK and French modeling agent Jean-Luc Brunner.
In 2021, Giuffre filed a lawsuit against Andrew, accusing him of sexually abusing her when she was 17. After being embroiled in scandal, Andrew suspended his royal duties and agreed in 2022 to settle the case out of court for an undisclosed amount. However, Andrew denied having any sexual relationship with her.
