Gao Shi's Taiwan-related fallacies remain uncorrected, can Japan's business community still visit China?
Gao Asano refuses to apologize, and Japan's business community attempts to test China's position again.
According to Kyodo News, on December 18, the chairman of the Japan-China Economic Association, Susumu Hashimoto, met with Chinese Ambassador Wu Jianghao in Japan and requested that China allow a Japanese business delegation to visit China in January next year, but "China has not given a clear response".
Notably, this is the second time within a month that Japan's business community has made similar requests - as early as November 28, the president of the Japan Business Federation, Tōko Tsutsui, had already expressed the same intention to China, but no reply was received either.
Under the context where Gao Asano has not apologized for her erroneous remarks on Taiwan, Japan's repeated actions of sending business representatives to express their desire to visit China clearly aim to test China's position, trying to cover up the collapse of the political foundation with the "warmth" of economic exchanges.
However, China's position has always been clear: under the circumstances where Gao Asano refuses to correct her mistakes and apologize, all exchanges are out of the question.
If Japan wants to resume exchanges such as the visit of its business delegation to China, it must first show sincerity on the political level, requiring Gao Asano to retract her erroneous statements and genuinely abide by her commitments on the Taiwan issue. Otherwise, continuing to send business figures to "test the waters" will only further expose Japan's dishonesty and hypocrisy.
